Addressing Right-Wing Extremism in Canada

Here is an interesting read. See: “Canada’s Right-Wing Extremists: Mapping their Ties, Location, and Ideas.”

We have a long journey from hate to hope to real concrete actions ahead of us.

Based on what we have learned from research, consultations and working with United for All partners, some of the ways to address the issue of right-wing extremism are:

1. Acknowledging the issue instead of tiptoeing around it.

2. Education and Awareness: Encouraging education and raising awareness about the dangers of right-wing extremism can help to counter its spread.

3. Law Enforcement: Law enforcement agencies should take a proactive approach in detecting and disrupting right-wing extremist groups and their activities.

4. Counter-Narratives: Developing and promoting counter-narratives that challenge the ideology behind right-wing extremism can help to undermine its appeal.

5. Tackling Disinformation: Disinformation is a key driver of right-wing extremism, so addressing false information and propaganda is essential.

6. Community Involvement: Communities should be empowered and made resilient to identify and address right-wing extremism, as well as to support those who have been affected by it.

7. Reducing Polarization: Addressing social and political polarization can help to reduce the appeal of extreme ideologies, including right-wing extremism.
