It’s all about the use of social media. The same tech that enables social media to galvanise social justice activists is being used by hate groups seeking to organise and recruit paddlers of hate and conspiracies.

Individually we need to speak up, educate and condemn hate in whichever form it might be. Collectively, we must provide funding and resources for developing educational programmes that foster resilience to hate speech, informed by current hate speech trends and responding to misinformation campaigns.

We need to establish coalitions, such as https://unitedforall.ca and support partnerships with educational institutions and social media companies to increase access to information and resources to address hate speech on social media via targeted dissemination campaigns.

Ensure that adequate resources are provided for backbone organisations dedicated to countering hate and violence, particularly those best equipped to take local contexts into account, and provide partners with support.
