A welcome step by Halton Police. Community and police forces are collaborating in preventative efforts. However, when it comes to enforcement, unfortunately, in the Criminal Code of Canada, there is no such thing as Hate Crime. Hate Crime doesn’t exist. No wonder why nearly a quarter million Canadians said they were victims of hate-motivated incidents (223,000 incidents, according to StatsCan 2019). Police investigated less than 1% of these incidents as hate crimes.
Even disappointing is that the federal government has no plans to overhaul hate crime offences as recommended by policing experts.
