News: How racial bias can affect 911 calls and what dispatchers in Montreal are learning to stop it
To fix the police or any other institution for systemic racism, we need to fix the society.
Here is an example of the issue: “A 911 operator answers a call from a woman complaining about “a Muslim man parked on a quiet street. The man strikes the caller as suspicious. …A police response in this case, and in others like it, could lead to accusations that officers racially profiled the man — but here, the profiling didn’t originate with the officers.” Exactly.
This also shows that police, or any institution for that matter, is a reflection of the society. Unfortunately, in the case of police, incidents of systemic discrimination are mostly physical and visible.
